St. Johns County Jail Roster

The St. Johns County, Florida Inmate Roster is a public tool that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county jail. On the StJohnsCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office maintains this roster and updates it regularly through its official website. In addition to online searches, information can be obtained by calling the jail directly or visiting it in person. The roster serves as a transparency tool: it allows the public to know who is in custody, what charges have been filed, and when the arrest occurred.

Search Current Inmates in St. Johns Jail

To find a current inmate, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to StJohnsCourt.us to search for publicly available court records related to inmates.
  2. On the official St. Johns County Sheriff's Office website, navigate to the inmate roster section. The roster is usually available as a browsable list or with a search field by name.
  3. Enter the person's full legal name (last name and first name). If the booking number is known, use it — it is the most accurate way to search.
  4. If there is no separate search field on the roster page, use the browser's "Find on Page" function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to quickly locate the last name.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — this restriction is in accordance with Florida state law.

Find St. Johns Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created when a person is officially admitted to jail. It is the first document that records the fact of being in custody.

During the booking process, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges filed
  • Name of the arresting agency (e.g., Sheriff's Office, St. Augustine City Police)
  • Mugshot and basic identification data

These records are mostly public in Florida due to the broad Florida Public Records Law (Chapter 119, Florida Statutes). They can be found through the online roster on the sheriff's website or through StJohnsCourt.us.

If an official document is needed — for example, for an attorney or employer — submit a public records request directly to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. The request can be sent in writing or via email. Some records may be restricted if the case involves an ongoing investigation.

Search the St. Johns Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods. Each is suitable for different situations.

Search by Last Name

The most common option. Enter the last name in Latin script. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one letter can prevent finding the desired result.
  • If the system supports partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name.
  • Add the first name to narrow down the results if the last name is common (e.g., Smith or Johnson).

Search by Booking Number

This method is the most accurate. The booking number is a unique identifier assigned to each jail admission case. If you received this number from an attorney, police officer, or another source, enter it in the appropriate field — the system will immediately show the required record.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results?

  1. Check the spelling of the name. Try alternative versions (e.g., "Mike" instead of "Michael").
  2. The person may have already been released — the roster only displays those in custody at the time of the search.
  3. The booking may have occurred very recently, and the data has not yet appeared in the system.
  4. Call the jail at (904) 824-8304 and inquire directly.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in St. Johns

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office updates the roster regularly throughout the day, but this does not always happen instantly. There can be a delay of several minutes to several hours between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online roster, depending on staff workload and the time of day.

Consider a few limitations:

  • Delay after booking. New records sometimes appear only after the full admission procedure is completed, which includes photographing, fingerprinting, and medical examination.
  • Disappearance of records after release. When an inmate is released (on bail, by court decision, or after serving time), their record disappears from the active roster. The roster is not an archive.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a name may be entered incorrectly, complicating the search.
  • Restricted records. Some categories of inmates — particularly juveniles and individuals involved as witnesses in certain cases — are not displayed publicly.

To obtain historical data on past bookings, submit an official public records request to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. You can also use the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) system to check criminal history at the state level. The jail roster reflects only the current custody status and does not replace a full criminal background check.
